Philip Seymour Hoffman was born on July 23, 1967 in Fairport, New York. He died from a heroin overdose in his Greenwich Village apartment on February 2, 2014.

Sometimes Philip Seymour Hoffman is credited as Philip S. Hoffman, Philip Hoffman, Phillip Seymour Hoffman and or Phil Hoffman.

In 1991 Philip Seymour Hoffman made his film debut in TRIPLE BOGEYON A PAR FIVE HOLE. But it was in 1992 when Philip had his first big hit MY NEW GUN.
The role that really got Philip Seymour Hoffman recognition was in Paul Thomas Anderson's BOOGIE NIGHTS, in 1997.

Philip Seymour Hoffman has earned two Tony nominations to-date. His first was in 2000 for Best Actor  for the revival of TRUE WEST, His second Tony nomination was in 2003, again for Best Actor for the revival of  LONG DAY'S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT.

In the 2006 edition of Premiere Magazine's 100 Greatest Performances of All Time, Philip Seymour Hoffman was ranked #35 for his role as Truman Capote, in CAPOTE.
An award winning role for Philip Seymour Hoffman was the title role in CAPOTE .Philip won the Film Critics Award as Best Actor, and Philip also won the Best Actor Oscar among othe acting honors.
