Big Lebowski Not Originally a Hit ???

 

The now beloved movie, The Big Lebowski was initially not a box office success, and movie critics all pretty much gave it a thumbs down. However, The Big Lebowski, starring Jeff Bridges as The Dude, along with John Goodman, John Turturro, Steve Buscemi, and the late great Philip Seymour Hoffman, turned out to become the greatest cult movie classic in film history.

Along with movies like: The Godfather, Scarface, The Terminator and other films, millions of fans quote lines from the movie, buy merchandise, and books, attend Big Lebowski Festivals, and drink White Russians. There is even a Big Lebowski Cookbook.

Yes before The Big Lebowski became the widely loved cult classic that it is today, it was a box office disapointment. After the success of the Coen Brothers movie Fargo which was nominated for for 7 Oscars, and won two Academy Awards, one for Best Actress for Francis McDormand, and Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for the Coen Brothers, people were expecting a similar sort of film from the Big Lebowski, which did not receive one Oscar nomination at all. Anyway, the Coen brothers make wonderful movies, and though The Big Lebowski was not a imediate success, it truned out to be, and is etched in movie history as one of the most beloved, quoted films, and one of the greatest cult movies of all time, so you most abide in the Dude and the Coen Brothers film classic, The Big Lebowski if forever wonderful.
